A Sure Thing for a Friday Night: Jay Smith plays Rock Bottom Brew Pub February 22nd

He is an ECMA winner, former front-man for popular Sydney band Rock Ranger, guitar player for Matt Mays’ band El Torpedo, has released a terrific CD, and is playing tonight at a local Halifax pub for free!

Who is he?

He is Jay Smith.

Originally from Sydney, and now based in Halifax, Smith won the  ‘SOCAN Songwriter of the Year’ award at the 2009 ECMAs for co-writing Gordie Sampson’s “We Are Young And So Is The Night”. His most recent appearance in Halifax was with Matt Mays at the Halifax Forum.

Playing with Mays, Smith’s excellence as a guitar player, and love of playing live, is evident.  What you don’t get to see in those shows is how good a songwriter and singer he is.  As a solo artist,  Smith has been described as Roy Orbison meets the Ramones.

I had the pleasure of seeing him perform solo a couple of summers ago at the Cape Breton Fudge Company in Sydney.  Now is your chance to see Smith play a rare solo show. You do not want to miss it.

As an added bonus, if you like photos from the road, you should follow Jay Smith on Twitter.
