The 3rd annual Lawnya Vawnya independent music and arts festival takes place in St. John’s. Newfoundland from April 17-21. The lineup includes some great artists, including a couple of my favourite East Coast Artists: Paper Beat Scissors and Pathological Lovers.
Halifax based, Paper Beat Scissors is Tim Crabtree. I recently had the pleasure of seeing Paper Beat Scissors open for Ben Caplan in Halifax and my review described Paper Beat Scissors as “a unique and special artist. Sounding unlike anything else on today’s music scene, Paper Beat Scissors is the type of act that comes along once in a generation. A band that you, as a music fan, need to experience.” You can read the complete concert review here.
Pathological Lovers are a four-piece rock band featuring my all-time favourite Newfoundland front-man: Jody Richardson. Formerly of The Thomas Trio & The Red Albino and Fur Packed Action, Richardson (who has played “Ziggy” of Ziggy’s Fries on the Republic of Doyle) has provided me decades of music listening enjoyment. An excellent musician and dynamic performer, Richardson is joined in the Lovers by Dave Rowe, Alexander Pierson and Grant King.
There are some other great acts in the Lawnya Vawnya line-up including Newfoundland’s The Delusion Victims, Ilia Nicoll, Mark Bragg & The Butchers, Long Distance Runners, Kat McLevey, Thom & the Tom Cats and Jared Klok. Flying in for the festival will be Montreal DJ Kid Koala, Constantines front man Bry Webb, Brooklyn rock band Obits, Shotgun Jimmie, Cousins, Matthew Hornell, The Modern Grass Quartet, Bloodshot Bill, Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby, Man Forever, Lisa Bozikovic.
If you are lucky enough to be in St. John’s during this festival, be sure to take it in.
