The first two acts for the August 31st “Love Does” fundraiser were announced today. They are a couple of Halifax Musicphile favourites: Dana Beeler & Stewart Legere.
There has been a lot of interest in assisting to this great cause, so expect some more acts to be announced soon. Volunteers are still needed so help out if you can. Here is the press release followed a video from each artist.
HALIFAX, NS – Organizers of Love Does, being held on August 31 at The Company House in support of Adsum For Women, Alice Housing, and Bryony House, are pleased to announce that local musicians Dana Beeler and Stewart Legere are the first two acts confirmed for the fundraiser concert.
Planned in response to the public outcry over the booking of Chris Brown to play this year’s Energy Rush concert, and the subsequent increase in conversation surrounding the issues of domestic violence and violence against women, Love Does will provide an opportunity for concerned Haligonians to turn feelings of frustration and disappointment into valuable support, both financial and otherwise, for the important work being done by these three charities every day.
“With the conversation about domestic violence so front and centre at the moment, it seemed like a great opportunity to give people a way to turn their anger and frustration into something positive,” says event co-organizer Jen Ochej. “Not only to say that we don’t support or condone an abuser, but to say that we want to do something to actually affect the level of violence our friends, our neighbours, our brothers and sisters deal with in this city.”
“We really want it to be something positive for the community, so we can get together and do something of value for these shelters,” echoes event co-organizer Chantal Caissie.
Support for the concert has already been coming in from all sectors, including local media, the East Coast music community, the business community, and countless individuals. Beeler and Legere are both eager to lend their musical talent to the evening and are looking forward to raising awareness and funds for the three charities.
Love Does will be held August 31 at The Company House (2202 Gottingen Street). Ticket prices and concert time will be determined in the weeks to come as other acts are confirmed; in the meantime, event details and updates can be found at http://www.lovedoeshfx.com or on Twitter at @lovedoeshfx.
