On Friday, July 17th, Halifax-based singer/songwriter Scott Nicks releases his third full-length album titled String of Dreams. Later that evening, Nicks will play the first of two CD release shows at Gus’ Pub in Halifax (with Walrus, BEST FRIENDS and Wildcat). Nicks, Walrus and Wildcat play Baba’s Lounge in Charlottetown, PEI on July 18th.
I’ve been a fan of Nicks’ music since first being introduced to it in 2013. At that time, I wrote about Nicks writing and recording a song in less than 24 hours. In preparation for that piece, I also listened to Nicks first two CDs. Since then, Nicks has released the three-song Gat Do EP (all songs are on String of Dreams).
Nicks’ music, like that of another impressive Halifax band Shadow Folk, falls into the genre of psychedelic pop. It is music reminiscent of bands from the 1960’s British Invasion and is very enjoyable to listen to.
Recorded at The Echo Chamber by Charles Austin, String of Dreams will transport you back to a simpler time and a simpler place. It is a great summer record. I recommend picking it up either digitally on Nicks Bandcamp page or in CD format.
