CD Review: Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys – Laugh, Dance & Sing

If there is ever a sequel to the movie “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”, I hope Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys record the soundtrack.

Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys (Peter Cann, Thomas Webb and Mark Geddes) hail from beautiful Prince Edward Island.  They were named the 2015 Music PEI Award “Entertainer of the Year” and “Touring Artist of the Year”.  In addition, they were awarded the 2014 East Coast Music Award and Music PEI Award for Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year for their last album, Pickin n’ Clickin’.

If you enjoyed Pickin n’ Clickin‘, then you’ll love Laugh, Dance & Sing. Produced, recorded and mixed by Dale Murray, Laugh, Dance & Sing is an album that can be summed up in one word…FUN!  The album starts at break-neck speed with “Ridin’ the Fiddle” and continues on with the toe tapping’, hand clapping’, finger snappin’ music until the lovely ballad “A Maritime Lullabye”.  After that, the Rhythm Boys jump right back into the fire with an excellent cover of Tom Petty’s “Kings Highway”, “Bake Sale” and the smile-enducing “Pickle King Polka”.

It’s easy to hear how much fun Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys have playing together.  Their smiles shine not only in their photos (see album cover) but also through the songs. Laugh, Dance & Sing is a brilliant album. It is an album that will make you laugh, dance and sing.
