Since the release of her single “Clothes Off”, Ria Mae has been building momentum across the country.
For a number of years, Ria was an east coast of Canada gem and secret. But with “Clothes Off”, Ria’s music was celebrated across Canada to the point where the song is nominated for 2016 Juno Award for Single of the Year. The nomination places Ria alongside some of this country’s most celebrated artists (Drake, The Weekend, Justin Beiber) and fellow newcomer Allessia Cara.
Ria’s videos have also been well received and her video for “Clothes Off” is currently nominated for a 2016 East Coast Music Award.
Today, Ria released the video for her new single “Gold”. When “Clothes Off” was released, I wrote “Not since “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was released in 1991 have I been this excited to share a song with anyone who will listen“. With “Gold”, it is clear that Ria has embraced her pop side and this song may skyrocket her into a whole new music stratosphere.
The video for “Gold” is exceptional. It is a mini-movie, telling a love story with a surprise ending (I will not reveal the spoiler. You’ll have to watch it to see). I will say that seconds after the words “I know” popped up on the screen, I cheered for the protagonist (and may have expressed my happiness at the twist using words not suitable for young children). Remarkable.
Congratulations to Ria Mae on taking another large step in her music career. We will be watching to see what you do next. Click here to download “Gold” on iTunes.
